Model United Nations
MUN is a yearlong social studies elective designed to focus on the following curricular content: major political ideologies in the current field of international relations, fundamentals of international law, fundamentals of economics and government, rules of procedure, diplomacy, role of the United Nations (both positive and negative), the process of writing resolutions, and problem solving techniques.
Students who are currently enrolled in or have previously taken MUN as a class also participate in the MUN Club. The MUN Club conducts in-school simulations and promotes worthy causes like Peace Day, AIDS Awareness Day and Women's Day, among others. Students involved in the MUN program extensively prepare for participation in MUN simulations at international and national locations, as well as in-school and in-class simulations. In recent years, we have participated in the following international simulations: BEIMUN (Beijing, China), CAIMUN (Cairo, Egypt), TIMUN (Istanbul, Turkey), and SPIMUN (St. Petersburg, Russia). We have also participated in national simulations in Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey. While traveling, MUN members have consistently conducted themselves admirably and have earned numerous individual awards.
Students interested in participating in our Model UN program should speak with their current social studies teacher or our MUN teachers, Mr. Isaias Torres [isaias.torres@asfg.edu.mx] and Miss Alison Lazo [alison.lazo@asfg.edu.mx].
